Paterson Street in 1970s Hong Kong was the place to go for entertainment. The Japanese department store Daimaru, Hong Kong’s first McDonalds, and the city’s only Cinerama theatre, all shared Paterson Street as their address. The latest edition to this bustling enclave was shopping mall Paterson Plaza. Its logo is based on the Chinese name for Paterson, “baak” (百), meaning one hundred, thickened so that it resembles a doll’s face.
